Job Description
Lecturer in Environmental Planning, Regulation and Industry

Do you want to connect your practical experience in environmental planning and working with industry into teaching and research? Are you enthusiastic about tackling real environmental planning challenges through applied research?

The Sustainability Research Institute within the School of Earth & Environment is the largest group of sustainability researchers in the UK. We collaborate with many partners on solution-focused research and teach a range of undergraduate and master's programmes that aim to equip our students to be part of progress towards sustainability.

This post will lead our postgraduate teaching on environmental planning and regulation, contribute to the MSc Sustainability & Consultancy programme, and support undergraduate teaching including our 'Year in Industry' programme.

We are keen to offer our industry partners more in terms of small research projects and knowledge exchange. This role provides a focus for developing that programme of work. We aim to extend our network of business and industry partners, building on our alumni connections, and this post will help improve our approach and further develop this network.

Please note: If you are not a British or Irish citizen, from 1 January 2021 you will require permission to work in the UK. This may be in the form of a visa, but if you are an EEA/Swiss citizen resident in the UK before 31 December 2020, your status under the EU Settlement Scheme or your passport may suffice.

This post may be suitable for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa route; however, first-time applicants might need to qualify for salary concessions. For more information, visit:

Benefits include:

  • 26 days holiday plus approximately 16 Bank Holidays (total 42 days annually)

  • Health and Wellbeing: Discounted staff membership options at The Edge, our campus gym with a pool, sauna, climbing wall, cycle circuit, and sports halls
  • Personal Development: Access to courses run by our Organisational Development & Professional Learning team
