Job SummaryApplications are invited for a part time lecturing role in the Faculty of Design. The role involves teaching 5 ECTS credit modules from the Faculty of Design BA programmes (Level 7) in Fashion, Interior Architecture & Design and Graphic Communication Design, as well as supervising 10 ECTS credit dissertations for Level 8 BA programmes in the same fields. The Lecturer will guide learners in critically analysing key current issues, contemporary discourses, theories, and multidisciplinary design practice. The successful candidate will encourage students to engage with contemporary issues in their own design practice, reflect on relevant debates locally and globally, and support practice based design research.
Required QualificationsCandidates will be expected to have a Level 9 Qualification or equivalent in Art & Design History or a cognate discipline such as Visual Culture, proven teaching excellence, the ability to support curriculum development, demonstrated leadership and problem solving skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to build collaborative relationships. Membership of a professional body and a record of research, scholarship and publications are an advantage.

The module is designed to accommodate emerging methodologies, knowledge and skills responding to the complexity of contemporary culture and design practice. It explores how practice is informed by context and theory. Students will critically analyse, debate and address key current issues and debates associated with design and their discipline specific practice. The module challenges students to reflect upon competing concepts and contemporary debates within local and global contexts.
Teaching Mode and ScheduleFull Time (Day)
- Every Thursday morning from 10:00 to 12:00. Contact Hours: 24 hours.
- Dissertation Supervision - Tuesday morning from 11:30 to 13:30. Hours depending on student dissertation numbers.
Part Time (Evening & Weekend)
- Every second Thursday evening from 18:15 to 19:45 (online), and four 3 hour Saturday classes (either 10:00-13:00 or 14:00-17:00).
- Contact Hours: 21 hours.
As part of the interview process, candidates are required to give a 5-10 minute mock lecture to the interview panel, who will act as students. The lecture should cover a specific aspect of a course offered by the Faculty or Department, using appropriate teaching aids. The lecture should not be the first lecture in a course or an overview; it should focus on explaining a particular aspect to students unfamiliar with the topic. The lecturer should outline any prerequisite information, and allow questions during or after the lecture.
