Background

The School of Policy and Global Affairs (SPGA) is an internationally recognized centre for research and learning on the human condition. It has approximately 2,500 students and over 100 staff across three departments: Economics, Sociology and Criminology, and International Politics. The school attracts outstanding academic staff who produce world-leading or internationally excellent research, offer innovative programmes, and enhance the career prospects of students.

The Department of Sociology and Criminology

This department has an international reputation for research and education, ranked 5th nationally and 1st in London in the 2021 REF. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including a well-established PhD programme. The department hosts several research centres, such as the Centre for Justice Reform, the European Social Survey (ESS) centre, the Violence and Society Centre, the Work and Society Centre, and the new Centre for Online-Safety, Safeguarding, Privacy and Identity (COSPI). It also hosts the City Q-Step Centre, delivering specialist undergraduate quantitative programmes.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will contribute to developing and delivering undergraduate and postgraduate criminology degrees, focusing on criminal justice. They will also undertake doctoral supervision and contribute to the research profile of the department.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in Criminology or a relevant field, with a proven track record of innovative teaching and impactful research in criminal justice, appropriate to their career stage.
