CMVM / RDSVS / Division of Farm Animal and Veterinary Public Health

Full time: 35 hours per week

Open Ended (permanent)

The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies is looking for a committed individual to lead our preclinical Animal Husbandry teaching for undergraduate veterinary students, and develop their own academic strengths.

The Opportunity

Animal Husbandry is a core component of the undergraduate veterinary degree, involving the care and management of animal species such as cattle, sheep, horses, cats, dogs and other animals. In addition, our BVM&S students have to undertake 10 weeks "pre clinical" or Animal Husbandry Extra Mural Studies (AHEMS) as part of their professional degree accreditation by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS).

This position will involve teaching Animal Husbandry to undergraduate veterinary students, including course management and assessment. In conjunction with administrative support, you will also support the EMS component of undergraduate veterinary teaching. The post also allows scope to undertake research, either pre existing or in conjunction with research programmes within the school. Given the focus of this role on animal husbandry and livestock production systems, we would particularly welcome applicants with a research interest in parasitology and/or nutrition.

Your skills and attributes for success
  • A Degree in an agricultural or veterinary discipline, or equivalent
  • A sound knowledge and practical experience of Animal Husbandry and associated animal handling practical skills.
  • Physical fitness for practical animal handling (mainly sheep and cattle)
  • An interest in research relevant to the strengths of the school.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
As a valued member of our team, you can expect
  • A competitive salary.
  • An exciting, positive, creative, challenging and rewarding place to work.
  • To be part of a diverse and vibrant international community.
  • Comprehensive Staff Benefits, including 40 days annual leave entitlement, a defined benefits pension scheme, a wide range of staff discounts, family friendly initiatives, and flexible work options. Check out the full list on our staff benefits page and use our reward calculator to discover the value of your pay and benefits.
