Job Description

We are seeking a caring, proactive and enthusiastic Learning Mentor to join our dedicated team at Shirestone Academy. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting pupils to overcome barriers to learning, helping them to thrive both academically and emotionally as well as contributing to raising standards for all pupils.

Shirestone Academy is a one form entry Primary School in the Tile Cross area of Birmingham. In our most recent Ofsted inspection we were judged as 'Outstanding', where Ofsted commented that 'The school is at the heart of the community' and that 'Pupils are happy, feel safe and simply love coming to school.'

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of our committed and hardworking staff team in the key role of Learning Mentor. We are seeking to appoint a caring, patient and reflective individual to support pupils' wellbeing, emotional development and engagement with learning. This role is integral to our whole child approach, with a strong focus on trauma informed practice and building positive, trusting relationships.

As a Learning Mentor, you will work closely with all pupils and in particular those who require additional support, providing one to one and small group interventions to build confidence, resilience and positive learning behaviours. You will develop strong, trusting relationships with children, helping them to improve their social, emotional and behavioural skills so they can fully engage in school life. You will have a strong understanding of trauma informed practice and recognise the impact of adverse childhood experiences on a child's learning. You will have knowledge and understanding of the PHSE Framework and how it can be used to support pupils' personal, social and emotional development effectively. You will reinforce key PSHE themes such as relationships, wellbeing and resilience through your daily interactions and targeted interventions. You will also oversee the PHSE curriculum with the Deputy Headteacher and support staff in its delivery and implementation.

As a learning mentor you will also support lunchtimes, provide break time and lunchtime clubs, as well as morning clubs and support when children may need regulating.

The successful candidate will collaborate with teachers, parents and external professionals to ensure a consistent and tailored approach to each child's needs. You will play a key role in creating a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment where every pupil feels valued and supported. You will work closely with the Pastoral Manager and Senior Leadership Team to ensure children are supported holistically, with their mental health and wellbeing prioritised at all times. You will be the first port of call for children when support is required.

If you are passionate about making a positive impact and supporting children to succeed, we would love to hear from you, particularly if you thrive in a fast paced environment where no two days are the same, you can keep your sense of humour intact and you understand that the best work is often "fast paced" but full of laughter along the way.
