Job Description
Role purpose and overview

An exciting opportunity has opened up for a Leader Writer to join the Comment team.

The role involves crafting influential editorials that state the Telegraph's view of the issues of the day.

The right candidate will have exceptional writing skills, very strong editorial judgment, and excellent knowledge of politics and current affairs.

Key responsibilities
  • Writing persuasive daily editorials that capture the Telegraph's view of the issues of the day.
  • Pitching ideas at Leader conference, consistent with the principles of the Telegraph and the interests of our readers.
  • Building and retaining high-level contacts in politics and current affairs to help inform the editorials.
  • There may be an opportunity to write other forms of pieces, including opinion columns.
Key skills
  • Exceptional writing skills
  • Very strong editorial judgment
  • Excellent knowledge of politics and current affairs
  • An interest in debate and the principles that the Telegraph stands for
  • Previous Leader-writing experience (desirable)
