Lead Veterinary Surgeon - Leicester
Salary: Up to £75,000 per annum, depending on experience
Job Type: Permanent, full-time (flexible working patterns can be discussed)
Hours: 40 hours over 4-5 days with a 1:4 Saturday rota (8.30am-2pm) and 1:15 Sunday (8am-7pm, paid extra). No nights, as a dedicated night team is in place. Bank holidays on a rota (paid extra).
This role is based on one site in Leicester, offering continuity and stability within a supportive, collaborative environment. The practice has dedicated 24-hour nursing and vet teams and holds Cat-Friendly Status across all sites with a Gold award for this site.
Facilities include in-house CT, dental suites with dental X-ray, video endoscopy, ASIF kit, TPLO/TTA/Tightrope, arthroscopy, and advanced ophthalmology equipment. The role provides opportunities to work with certificate holders in ophthalmology, orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, and emergency critical care. Regular clinical case discussions and monthly team meetings support continuous learning and professional development.

Responsibilities- Lead and foster team development and collaboration.
- Collaborate with certificate holders in ophthalmology, orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, and emergency critical care.
- Support continuity of care by working on a single-site basis.
- Participate in regular clinical case discussions and monthly team meetings.
- Encourage and support certificate studies and individual interests.
- RCVS registration and a minimum of 5 years of general practice experience.
- Line management experience is desirable but not essential; development support is available.
- Passion for leading and developing a team.
- GDP advisor or willingness to become one.
- Proficiency in routine neutering (cats and dogs of all sizes), including FLANK cat spays.
- Ability to perform abdominal ultrasound, TFAST, and AFAST imaging independently.
- Experience with exploratory laparotomies, splenectomies, GDVs, gastrotomy, and enterotomy without support.
- Confidence with routine 15-minute consults and routine dental cases.
