Lead Engineer

ORGANISATIONAL CONTEXT

Working within a small Engineering Enablement team, the role will cover a wide range of projects and technology. The team is focused on both looking further ahead than the Product Development teams to ensure that early technology decisions meet the long-term aims of the business and also assisting alongside the delivery of bigger projects as foundational services are required within the platform.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITY

Working as a hands-on software engineer within the Engineering Enablement team, sitting alongside the Product Development teams. The role requires knowledge of a wide range of technology and a long-term view of how the engineering function needs to prepare to deliver on the ambitious product roadmap. There is a need for a strong communicator to work with various stakeholders and shape the technical direction of the business towards its aims.

Investigate areas of all products for performance and stability improvements.

Research potential new technology and its implementation within the existing roadmap of products.

Build out new services as required to support the wider StarCompliance platform.

Assist in the realization of the bigger picture architectural plan of the Star Platform.

Work alongside Product Management to build a technical roadmap supporting the product roadmap.

Ensure adherence to engineering best practices and coding standards.

Skills & Experience

• Proficient with a range of development technologies (C#, JavaScript, Python, React).
• Commercial experience working on enterprise-level applications.
• Experience with cloud computing technologies within the Azure platform.
• A proven track record of developing for large and complex software projects.
• Experience with various relational database management systems (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL).
• Strong communication skills and the ability to present complex technical concepts to various stakeholders.
• Genuine interest in collaborating across different parts of the business to find the best solutions.
• Able to turn loosely defined problem statements into strategic plans.
• Quick learner of new technical skills and frameworks.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Standard hours per week with flexible location options, including travel to other locations (York, UK) as required.
