Job Title: Lead Psychometrician
Contract: Full-time, permanent, 35 hours per week
Salary: £70,000-£93,700 per annum
Location: Cambridge, Hybrid (2-3 days per week in Cambridge)

We are looking for a Lead Psychometrician to join our world-class team and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of English language assessment. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the design and implementation of advanced psychometric processes, with a strong focus on Computer Adaptive Testing (CAT) and innovative approaches that underpin our transformation strategy.
Working across the Cambridge ecosystem, you will help deliver scalable, modular assessment products and composable systems architecture, ensuring validity, reliability, and compliance across high-stakes testing programmes. Your work will be critical to enabling faster, smarter, and more adaptive assessment solutions for learners worldwide.
The RoleAs Lead Psychometrician, you will be responsible for driving innovation in psychometric and CAT processes, which will be critical to the successful transformation programme. As part of this role, you will:
- Develop and maintain frameworks for adaptive testing capabilities aligned with our Principles of Good Practice.
- Lead the design, calibration, and validation of CAT-based assessments using advanced psychometric models.
- Direct studies and simulations to validate design assumptions and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with product owners, technology teams, and subject matter experts to integrate CAT systems into digital delivery platforms.
Your leadership will ensure our assessment services become connected, efficient, and scalable-positioning Cambridge as a global leader in digital assessment.
About YouAs our Lead Psychometrician, you will need extensive experience in delivering innovative psychometric solutions in large-scale, high-stakes assessment environments. You will also have a deep expertise in Item Response Theory, Rasch models, and Computer Adaptive Testing algorithms, as well as strong analytical skills and proficiency in R, Python, or similar tools for psychometric analysis and CAT simulation.
