OverviewThe Distributed Platform organization at Mastercard is looking for a Lead System Platform Engineer. This role focuses primarily on engineering activities but also serves as escalated support for the Operations team. Key responsibilities include architecture, design, deployment, and lifecycle maintenance of server based solutions across physical and virtual environments.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities- Engineer, design, and implement test automation frameworks in collaboration with IT departments; identify, implement, and measure efficiencies.
- Architect and implement automation for physical and virtual infrastructure, operating systems, and physical/virtual server builds.
- Ensure that current system architecture and implementations match organizational standards and pursue continuous improvement.
- Define and recommend hardware and firmware end of life remediation to leadership.
- Design, test, and implement automation for internal processes such as server builds, OS management, patch management, and configuration management.
- Create and modify scripts or code to provide automation, diagnostics, or logging for operational tasks.
- Partner with Operations as Tier III support to troubleshoot operating systems and applications, resolve malfunctions, and correct operational issues.
- Develop processes and documentation to increase functionality and efficiency of infrastructure in Distributed Platforms.
- Engineer the patch management lifecycle, including preparation, curation, staging, testing, and enterprise patching on operating systems.
- Engineer the operating system management lifecycle to prepare, curate, test, and implement new OS images.
- Partner with Information Security to define, design, implement, and support Mastercard security policy standards.
- Install, configure, and maintain physical and virtual servers in accordance with Mastercard standards.
- Partner with program teams to define requirements and develop architecture, design, and functionality documentation.
- Create and maintain documentation for procedures, configurations, and programs; provide information to external teams.
- Manage, mentor, and motivate a team, instilling a technical process improvement culture within Distributed Platforms.
- Work in an Agile environment to deliver solutions for internal Mastercard customers.
- Advanced system administration experience with Linux servers in physical and virtual environments.
- Ability to write or review architectural design documents.
- Knowledge of monitoring systems, capacity planning, and performance optimization.
- Understanding of industry trends and ability to apply them to architectural needs.
- Intermediate to advanced experience with automation technologies (Chef, Ansible, Puppet, Shell scripting).
- Intermediate to advanced coding skills in Ansible/YAML, Bash, Python, Ruby, or Go.
- Advanced written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Advanced problem solving, multitasking, and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to adapt to new technologies and changing business needs.
- Intermediate to advanced understanding of compute theory from hardware through serverless abstraction.
- Experience with containerization technologies (Kubernetes, Docker, etc.).
- Hands on experience with Dell, HPE, or Cisco server architecture.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Perl, Ruby, or Go.
- RedHat certification (Architect).
