Job Description

Contract: Freelance
Duration: Beginning of September to end of December 2025

Freedom From Torture and the Asylum Reform Initiative are conducting an organising project, building local power to create positive change for refugees in the UK. We are looking for a Lead Organiser to join the project on a freelance basis.

- Support organisers to recruit, retain and train local community organisers to build power in support of refugee rights (target of 400 volunteers by year end)
- Link into national campaigning context and direct organising efforts to support key policy asks

Responsibilities include:

- Managing a small team of organisers
- Directing organising efforts to react strategically to external climate/events, including considerations of safety
- Working with ARI/TWR coalition to assess external and political environments and ensure organising and campaigning efforts are aligned for maximum impact
- Working with delivery partner Small Axe to ensure organisers have access to and support in using digital tools to enable their organising
- Working with wider project delivery team to ensure resources are allocated effectively to meet project goals
- Reporting on organising efforts to project team and input into grant reporting
- Working with external MEL partner to contribute to learnings about the organising methodology for the wider sector

Person specification:
- Significant experience of community organising, ideally in the UK (E)
- Managing, motivating and coordinating a remote team to reach shared targets and goals (E)
- Knowledge of the refugee or migration sector and policy landscape (D)
- Working with agencies or other external delivery partners (D)

Contract parameters:

- Beginning of September until end of December
- 3 days per week
- £350/day
