We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead General Practitioner to join our healthcare team at HMP Leeds, a category B male prison housing individuals aged 21+. In this role you will oversee the delivery of a high quality GP service at HMP Leeds, and clinically supervise 4 GPs, 2 ANPs, 1 trainee ANP and 1 Trainee MNP. You will also assist with training, rotas, clinical sessions, and lead MPCCC and safer prescribing meetings. HMP Leeds has a fast paced healthcare service where no two days are the same.

Hours

This role is full time, 40 hours per week, including morning, afternoon and evening sessions from Monday to Friday.

Salary

This is a full time role with an annual salary up to £129,500 per annum - depending on experience.

Main duties of the job

Our Lead General Practitioners are highly valued and respected members of the Prison Healthcare community. As a Lead GP, your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide medical leadership and expert advice on medical and primary care issues
  • Identify and utilise evidence-based best practice through benchmarking and clinical guidelines
  • Chair MPCCC and safer prescribing meetings; support 72-hour review meetings
  • Ensure systems and processes are in place for managing results, letters, and tasks
  • Be a core member of the local QA and MM meetings
  • Review RCA findings and engage in action planning to embed lessons learned
  • Support development of Local Operating Policies
  • Support the Head of Healthcare at Local Delivery Board meetings
  • Attend Clinical Forums
  • Review CVs for potential new GPs and locum/agency GPs; support recruitment
  • Oversee induction of new GPs at the local site
  • Support other GPs with peer review and clinical supervision
  • Support discussions about poor performance and escalate as needed

Qualifications required
  • MBChB or MBBS
  • Inclusion on the GMC Register and GP Performers List
  • RCGP 1 and 2 substance misuse qualifications or willingness to undertake the qualifications
  • Ability to work with patients with a history of substance misuse
  • Interest in long-term conditions
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Knowledge and methods of developing clinical quality assurance
  • Ability to develop evidence-based best practice
Essential/Desirable (Experience and Other Criteria)
  • Experience and qualifications described in the job description and person specification
Legal and Registration
  • Disclosure and Barring Service checks are required; post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) 1975 and a DBS check
  • Applicants must have current UK professional registration
