Are you an experienced Engine Programmer ready to lead the technical direction of a major open-world title?

A globally renowned AAA studio is looking for a Lead Engine Programmer to drive development on a large-scale, narrative-rich open world game built in Unreal Engine. In this hybrid role, you'll combine hands-on programming with people leadership-guiding a team of engineers, shaping system architecture, and helping push the boundaries of what's possible with Unreal technology.

What you'll be doing:

  • Leading a team of engine programmers-mentoring, hiring, and motivating them to achieve technical and creative excellence
  • Designing and implementing core engine systems, with a focus on scalability and performance in large open worlds
  • Proposing new tools, technologies, and workflows to enhance production capabilities
  • Owning technical decisions and architecture for major engine features and systems
  • Collaborating across departments to ensure tech supports the needs of all disciplines
  • Troubleshooting and optimising systems for multiple platforms and hardware
  • Championing best practices and innovation in Unreal Engine development

What we're looking for:

  • 7+ years of experience as a programmer in the games industry, with at least 1 year in a leadership role
  • Deep knowledge of C++ and hands-on experience building performant, scalable game systems
  • Strong understanding of Unreal Engine, particularly in relation to rendering, physics, tools, or similar areas
  • Experience shipping games across multiple platforms
  • Proficiency in system architecture and multithreaded programming
  • Strong debugging, optimisation, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to support and inspire a diverse team
  • A proactive mindset and passion for technical excellence
