Job Description

Lead Data Governance Manager - We're looking for an exceptional individual to shape the governance of our environmental data, ensuring that our data assets support reliable climate predictions and informed decision making across the Met Office and its partners.

Responsibilities
  • Work with the Head of Data Governance and senior leaders to establish and maintain a Data Governance Framework of principles, policies and guidance.
  • Engage with business units and end users to promote governance principles, build stakeholder buy in and communicate the value of trusted data.
  • Develop and support adoption of the framework through formal and informal engagement across the organisation.
  • Respond to business challenges, maintaining alignment to enterprise design frameworks and to external best practice policiesчилгээ.
  • Introduce and manage measures to monitor changer maturity in environmental data governance, using research, collaboration and user feedback to identify and remove blockers.
  • Lead an inclusive, accountable approach to data governance, embedding transparent practices and reviewing assurance to ensure compliance, data quality and risk mitigation.
  • Work with industry leaders and external stakeholders to share governance knowledge and drive continuous improvement.
Essential Criteria, Skills & Experience
  • Leadership & Mentorship - experience of line management and mentoring.
  • Enterprise Data Strategy & Governance - proven ability to develop and implement enterprise wide data strategies and governance structures.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Policy Design - strong engagement skills and the ability to design practical governance policies.
  • Compliance, Assurance & Technical Expertise - experience embedding compliance, monitoring assurance metrics and applying technical knowledge of data architecture and metadata management.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience with environmental or geospatial data.
  • DAMA DMBOK knowledge and delivery across functional areas.
  • Leading data strategy with AI focus.
Benefits & Reward
  • Annual salary up to £79,657.
  • Outstanding Civil Service pension (average 28.ేర% employer contribution).
  • Recruitment Retention Allowance - £3,800 per annum (April 2024 - March 2026).
  • Annual leave starting at 27.5 days (+bank holidays) rising to 32.5 days (+bank holidays Dyson five years); option to buy/sell up to 5 days per year.
