Position

Junior Lawyer - Water Industry Enforcement Team (enforcement and prosecution, Legal and Audit Services).

Overview

The Environment Agency's Water Industry Enforcement Team works across multiple regions to conduct criminal proceedings and advise on the enforcement of environmental requirements. The role includes civil sanctions, training staff on disclosure requirements and the use of statutory and enforcement powers.

Responsibilities

• Conduct criminal proceedings and advise on environmental enforcement matters.
• Impose civil sanctions such as enforcement undertakings and variable monetary penalties.
• Provide training to staff on disclosure requirements and statutory powers.
• Own a caseload and contribute to the performance improvement of the Water Industry.
• Work closely with and be supervised by experienced colleagues.

Qualifications & Experience

• Qualified lawyer with right to practise in England and Wales.
• 0-3 years post qualifying experience (PQE) or recently qualified.
• Some criminal litigation experience (prosecution or defence) and/or interest in environmental or regulatory law.
• Confidence, credibility and clear communication of legal matters.
• Curiosity, collaborative mindset and ability to influence stakeholders.
• Proactive, detail oriented with analytical skills and a desire to make an impact.
• Interest in developing as a trusted legal adviser and prosecutor.
