Language Experience Manager - English
The Globalization team is key in enabling Expedia Group's international growth by adapting our products, brands, and services across the world, delivering a great experience to both travelers and partners alike, at scale.
We are currently looking for an experienced Language Experience Manager to drive the local and regional globalization strategy in English-speaking markets for Expedia Group's products and localized content. This role will be based in the London office and will work closely with regional and global teams and stakeholders.
The focus of this role is to implement a strategic approach to language management at scale and be a trusted expert who understands the specific needs of the target market(s), collaborate with stakeholders, and deliver the most engaging local experience. You will work with internal and external teams to help all Expedia Group brands operate with a truly global approach.
In this role, you will:
- Build and implement a comprehensive localization strategy, recommending courses of action for internal and external teams and advocating for a better local user experience.
- Develop linguistic and cultural standards and define quality expectations for all brands, experiences, and languages within your scope.
- Build compelling business cases, highlighting the relevance of programs and initiatives for stakeholders and partner teams.
- Identify opportunities for and drive improvements by analyzing market and language data (such as language consumption trends at market and brand levels, internal and external quality data points) and drawing informed conclusions.
- Build relationships with local, regional, and global stakeholders that go beyond localization quality, helping you understand the business context and deliver better localized experiences for the target languages/markets.
- Support stakeholders seeking linguistic and local relevancy advice for assigned languages and/or markets, proactively offering expert recommendations.
- Identify opportunities to apply automation and process simplification (e.g., machine translation and related models, GenAI-supported content generation).
- Collaborate with other Language Experience Managers to ensure opportunities are assessed on a local, regional, and global level.
- Support global Language Experience and Globalization initiatives (such as Automated Quality Evaluation, Content Authoring, audits, competitor analyses, market deep dives, prompt writing, GenAI implementations).
- Ensure the localization quality of Expedia Group branded products in the target language(s).
Experience and qualifications:
- Solid experience in ecommerce/media/localization industry as a localization or language manager/team leader.
- Extensive experience in stakeholder management and vendor collaboration, familiar with content production processes.
- Knowledge of translation memories and translation processes, experienced in working in a global environment and leveraging AI-powered tools and processes.
- Strong interpersonal skills, effective verbal and written communication, ability to create accurate and punctual reports, deliver presentations, and share ideas.
- Ability to deliver structured, clear, and constructive feedback. Knowledge of English-speaking markets (especially UK), linguistic and cultural sensitivities, and regional specifics.
