Job Description
Job Purpose and primary objectives:
The Lab Engineering position in equires a skillful Engineer familiar with supporting scientists with laboratory PCs, Instrumentation, and devices. Lab Engineers are focused on maintaining operational computer systems for the scientists they support, joining newly-supplied hardware to the network, securing and hardening devices and generally facilitating the needs of the business.
Key responsibilities (please specify if the position is an individual one or part of a team):
- Assist in maintaining existing computer infrastructure of 5000 Lab Environment PCs globally.
- Image/Onboard new computers into the domain and onto the network.
- Secure and protect new and existing hardware.
- Consult with the business as they require assistance with their equipment.
- Troubleshoot and implement data flows for scientific instruments
Key Skills/Knowledge:
Technical skills:
- Outstanding computer troubleshooting skills for obscure issues, ranging from device connectivity, network issues, and laboratory software issues.
- Background with End-user Computing or Desktop Support skills essential. Break/Fix consists of 80% of a Lab Engineer's workload.
- Understanding of Networking concepts, such as network topography, VLANSs, Static/Dynamic IPs, Subnetting, IT/OT Networks, and basic understanding of Firewalls. Candidate should be familiar with the OSI model and how to troubleshoot different network layers.
- Knowledge and understanding of Active Directory required.
- AGILE ways of working necessary.
- Background with computer security
- Previous experience with validated systems (GxP) a plus.
- Familiar with ticketing systems such as Service-Now a plus.
- Microsoft Excel skills a plus.
- Business Analyst experience would be a bonus
Personal Skills:
- Must have outstanding communication skills.
- Candidate must be a team player
- Self-starter, attention to detail and willingness to learn new things a must.
- Must be willing to follow documented processes and procedures.
- Excellent organizational skills
Experience required:
8+ years of exp in End-User Computing & Desktop Support
