Working Week: Monday to Friday 42.5 hours Monday Friday full time

Brief Description

SO32 1QD We are looking for a motivated and practical Laboratory Technician Apprentice to join our laboratory team. This is a great opportunity to earn while you learn, developing hands on laboratory skills while working towards a Level 3 Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship.

Qualifications Required

GCSEs in Maths, English, and a science subject (or equivalent) at grade 4-9 or equivalent.

Personal Qualities

• Ability to work unsupervised following a planned work schedule
• Writing and numeracy skills
• Familiarity with computers / keyboards / typing skills
• Word, Excel, Access - statistics, graphs, data analysis
• General awareness of importance of safety, and in particular safety issues of working in a laboratory.

Future Prospects

Because of the technical experience you will gain from working in a laboratory, you will gain skills which many graduates have yet to develop. If you have practical ability, ability to solve problems and good communication skills there are opportunities for progression towards higher qualifications.

About the role

As a Laboratory Technician Apprentice, you will support the day to day work of the laboratory, assisting with testing, preparing samples and maintaining a clean and safe working environment. You will be trained and supported throughout the apprenticeship. (Southampton)

The candidate will cover Dispatch all day on a Wednesday and help out weighing out peptides for dispatch each morning. We are looking to develop this candidate to work in QC analysing peptide quality ready for dispatch. They will also be responsible for the archive store and our retention samples.

Key duties

• Assisting with laboratory tests and experiments under supervision
• Preparing samples, materials and equipment for testing
• Accurately recording results and maintaining laboratory records
• Cleaning, maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment
• Following health & safety procedures and quality standards

Working as part of a team to meet deadlines and maintain accuracy

Apprenticeship details

• Combination of on the job training and off the job learning
• Full training and support provided
• No previous laboratory experience required
