Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

About you

We're looking for a motivated and curious individual who's ready to start a hands on career in science. You should have a keen interest in chemistry and laboratory work, and a desire to grow your skills while contributing to real world projects that support environmental safety and the nuclear industry.

You enjoy practical work, pay close attention to detail, and can stay focused even when working to tight deadlines. You're someone who can manage tasks independently, but also knows the value of being part of a multi disciplinary team. You communicate clearly, ask questions when needed, and are always looking to learn.

You'll need to be comfortable working in a highly regulated environment and understand the importance of quality, safety, and confidentiality. A basic knowledge of QA/QC is helpful, but full training will be provided.

Experience

We value attitude, curiosity, and commitment just as much as past experience. While previous lab experience is an advantage, it's not essential - we're open to applicants from all backgrounds, especially those with a strong interest in science and the motivation to build a career as a technician in the nuclear sector.

You may be a school or college leaver, or someone looking to retrain. Either way, if you're enthusiastic, proactive, and ready to learn, you'll fit right in.

Qualifications

Formal qualifications aren't essential for this role. What matters most is your genuine interest in chemistry and laboratory work, a practical mindset, good communication skills, and a strong willingness to learn and grow within a technical role at Amentum.

Eligibility and requirements

Applicants must be 18 or over, not in full time education, have lived in the UK for 3 years and have the right to work in the UK. Candidates must undergo BPSS security clearance.

So how does the apprenticeship work?

Over 21 months, you will devote a minimum of 6 hours of your working week to off the job training, including theory lessons, online learning, shadowing, mentoring, and assignment work, which will count towards a Level 3 Laboratory Technician apprenticeship.

During this time you will earn a salary while gaining qualifications and experience, with no large student loan repayment at the end of the programme.
