The Ellison Institute of Technology (EIT) is building the next generation of AI-driven, autonomous laboratories-where experimental science, robotics, and machine learning integrate to design, execute, and optimise experiments dynamically. We are seeking a highly capable, hands on Autonomous Laboratory Technician to play a central role in this transformation. This position is ideal for a scientifically strong, adaptable laboratory professional who thrives at the bench and is excited by the transition from traditional wet lab workflows to automation enabled and AI-supported experimentation. The ideal candidate is excited to work across a contrasting set of scientific disciplines, and flexibly adjust their thought processes accordingly.
In this role you will:- Execute, optimise and design wet lab workflows
- Translate scientific objectives into structured, reproducible, automation ready protocols
- Read scientific literature and execute scientific protocols found in the literature in the wet lab
- Operate and support laboratory automation platforms, including liquid handling systems
- Contribute to the transition from manual and semi automated workflows to integrated automation systems
- Collaborate closely with automation engineers, AI researchers, and interdisciplinary scientific teams
- Maintain rigorous documentation, quality control, and biosafety compliance standards
This is a hands on, execution focused role with scientific responsibility and strong cross functional engagement.
You will bring:- A bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant STEM discipline
- Strong hands on experience from a wet lab environment
- Demonstrated ability to independently execute and troubleshoot laboratory workflows
- Experience translating experimental goals into structured, reproducible protocols
- High attention to detail and commitment to experimental quality
- Comfort working in a fast evolving, technology driven laboratory environment
- Operating automated laboratory systems (e.g., liquid handlers, experience with Hamilton and OpenTrons is particularly useful)
- Familiarity with structured data capture
- Exposure to programming (e.g., Python) and machine learning concepts
