We are seeking a reliable professional to support our Biology, Chemistry, and Physics laboratories in the Secondary section (and potentially Primary where needed), ensuring that practical lessons for our Cambridge IGCSE and AS/A Level programs run smoothly, safely, and effectively. This role is essential in enabling hands on science education that inspires students and prepares them for international examinations.
Position: Science Lab Technician / Assistant
Main Purpose of the Role To support the Science department and school leadership in delivering high quality practical science education by preparing, maintaining, and managing laboratory resources, equipment, and materials. Ensure laboratories are safe, well organized, and fully equipped to meet the needs of IGCSE and A Level practical components, contributing to the school's strategic goals of excellence in science teaching and student achievement.
- Prepare apparatus, chemicals, specimens, models, biological materials, solutions, and equipment for practical lessons across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics (including setup for demonstrations, experiments, dissections, and investigations)
- Set up laboratory stations and clear away materials after lessons, including safe disposal of waste, cleaning glassware/equipment, and using appropriate safety protocols
- Maintain laboratories, prep rooms, and storage areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition; conduct regular checks for damaged or faulty equipment and report issues promptly
- Manage inventory of chemicals, consumables, glassware, and apparatus; monitor stock levels, unpack deliveries, and assist with annual stock checks and ordering
- Ensure strict adherence to health and safety standards, including risk assessments, safe storage/handling of chemicals and biological materials, proper labeling, and compliance with school policies and local regulations
- Assist teachers during practical classes by providing technical support, demonstrating procedures where appropriate, and supervising student use of equipment
- Respond quickly to requests from teaching staff and help troubleshoot minor technical issues in the lab
- Maintain accurate records of equipment, chemicals, breakages, and usage; support documentation for audits or inspections
- Interact professionally with internal stakeholders (Principal, Heads of Schools, office staff, support staff, teachers, students) and external parties (MOE representatives, parents, visitors, suppliers)
- Participate in evolving responsibilities in consultation with the Principal, including supporting school events or safety drills as needed
English Fluency & Tech Skills: Professional English communication skills to collaborate with international science teachers. Proficiency in using digital lab equipment, such as Data Loggers and specialized lab software.
Inventory & Asset Management: Strong organizational skills to manage the inventory of chemicals and glassware. The candidate is responsible for ordering supplies and ensuring the regular maintenance of lab instruments like microscopes and balances.
Laboratory Safety (HSE): Mastery of international safety protocols, such as COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health). This includes managing chemical waste disposal and ensuring all safety equipment (eyewash stations, fire blankets) is functional.
Academic Qualification: A Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Physics, or Biology. You must have a solid understanding of scientific theories to prepare complex experiments and chemical solutions.
Minimum of 5 years of experience.
Curriculum Support (IB/IGCSE): Experience in preparing practical exams and experiments for international curricula like IB or IGCSE. This involves assisting students during lab sessions and ensuring all setups are ready before classes.
