Job Description
SUMMARY

The Laboratory Analyst I is responsible for performing a broad range of laboratory activities related to the analysis of geological materials, fluids, and other samples. This role requires adaptability to work across multiple departments, including rock properties, fluid analysis, core analysis, and wellsite services. The individual will follow approved procedures, ensuring high-quality data collection, documentation, and compliance with company standards. The Laboratory Analyst will also be expected to support offshore operations and other locations on an ad-hoc basis.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform laboratory tests on rock, fluids, and gas samples following documented procedures and quality standards.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment as per standard operating procedures.
  • Accurately record test results and complete all required worksheets, data forms, and reports.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe laboratory environment in compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Follow quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) processes, reporting any non conformances.
  • Assist with training of junior staff and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with setting up, adjusting, maintaining, and operating laboratory equipment in accordance with applicable standards and workplace practice while maintaining workplace cleanliness.
  • Conduct tests in rock properties, fluid analysis (PVT, Chemistry, GC), and core analysis laboratories as required.
  • Support wellsite services, including sample collection, preparation, and on site analysis.
  • Work collaboratively with different departments to ensure smooth operations and data consistency.
  • Adapt to changing workloads and assist with various projects as needed.
  • Travel offshore on an ad hoc basis.
  • Conduct wellsite analytical services, including core catching.
  • Ensure all offshore work is performed according to safety and quality standards.
  • Adhere to company safety policies and government environmental regulations.
  • Report unsafe practices and stop work if safety concerns arise.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2008 and company QA/QC procedures.
  • Follow the Principles of Prevention and stop or attempt to stop any recognised unsafe or environmentally irresponsible practice.
  • Report all non conformances and problems to your manager on a Non Conformance and Corrective Action Report.
  • Fully complete all worksheets, data forms, records, and administrative forms legibly and distribute or file these in the appropriate location.
  • Respect and protect company and client confidentiality.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, demonstrating adaptability and a commitment to operational excellence.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Educated to a minimum HNC or equivalent in a science subject, or relevant experience.
  • Degree in a geoscience based subject preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee may be asked to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, colour vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

International travel is required. The employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals in some work areas. The noise level is usually moderate.
