Job Description

We are looking for highly motivated junior doctors to work in the expanding Neurosciences Department. The post would be ideal for those who are considering a career in neurosurgery, orthopaedics or related disciplines and will commence on 5th August 2026.

The post holders will be responsible for delivering care to neurosurgical patients and will be expected to participate fully in the departmental neuroscience training programmes. The Trust grade doctors will have the same educational and training opportunities as training grade doctors, including theatre, clinic and teaching opportunities. However, at present these posts are not recognised for training purposes by Health Education North West.

Main duties of the job

We would encourage and aid the successful candidates to apply for run through training schemes or National training posts and facilitate this through audit, publication and presentations, whilst developing specific neurosurgical skills through hands on training opportunities. At least one audit and presentation at a national meeting would be expected. We have recognised recent success of such posts in national neurosurgical selection.

Qualifications
  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice.
Clinical Skills
  • Clinical Knowledge & Expertise: ? Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems.
Research
  • Demonstrates understanding of the basic principles of audit, clinical risk management, evidence based practice, patient safety and clinical quality improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of evidence-informed practice.
  • Evidence of involvement in an audit project, a quality improvement project, formal research project or other activity focussing on patient safety and clinical improvement that demonstrates an interest in and commitment to the specialty.
