A great opportunity for an ambitious Junior Systems Administrator to join a growing technology business. Working within a collaborative IT team, you'll be involved in everything from server and network administration to user support, gaining valuable experience across a broad technical estate.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the IT Manager, as a Junior Systems Administrator your responsibilities will include:
- Deploying software and administering user accounts, groups and system policies
- Monitoring infrastructure, services and applications to identify and resolve issues
- Installing, configuring and maintaining hardware, software, networking and application components
- Diagnosing and troubleshooting system, network and hardware faults
- Managing data backup, recovery and secure storage processes
- Replacing, upgrading and maintaining IT equipment and infrastructure
- Supporting cyber security best practices and internal security controls
- Assisting with compliance against recognised information security standards
- Maintaining accurate IT documentation, processes and asset records
- Providing technical support to internal users and external customers
- Managing the IT asset lifecycle from deployment through to retirement
- Undertaking occasional travel to other business locations for support and maintenance activities
- Supporting access control, CCTV and telephony systems
- Setting up workstations and IT equipment for new and existing employees
- Assisting with network infrastructure tasks, including cabling where required
- Supporting ad hoc IT projects and operational requirements
Requirements
Junior Systems Administrator, these are the essential skills that will be required:
- Ability to obtain UK Security Clearance - must be UK citizen from birth
- A-Level education (or equivalent) with strong IT, English and Maths skills
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook
- Basic networking knowledge
- Experience administering Windows Server and desktop environments within Active Directory
- Linux administration experience, including Debian/Ubuntu, package management, web servers, NFS and SSH
- Understanding of system security principles and business continuity planning
- Basic scripting experience using Bash and/or PowerShell
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks effectively
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- A proactive approach and willingness to learn new technologies
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Desirable
- Full UK driving licence
- Experience with PKI certificate management
