Junior Quantity Surveyor OCU Utilities Shetland

OCU are looking for a Junior Quantity Surveyor to join the team based in Shetland.
As a Junior Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial and financial management of construction or infrastructure projects, working under the guidance of senior QS staff. This role plays a vital part in ensuring that project costs are managed effectively-from initial estimates through to final accounts-while supporting procurement, contract administration, and reporting.
This role is ideal for someone early in their career. It offers the opportunity to build experience across cost planning, contractor engagement, site valuations, and financial controls on real-world projects across sectors like civil engineering, water, energy, or housing.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting in the preparation of cost estimates, budgets, and tender documents.
- Supporting procurement processes, including issuing enquiries and analysing quotations.
- Helping manage subcontractor accounts, variations, and valuations.
- Measuring quantities and assisting in preparing interim and final valuations.
- Assisting with the preparation of monthly cost reports and cash flow forecasts.
- Helping maintain project cost control, identifying risks and opportunities.
- Attending site meetings and assisting with recording project progress.
- Working closely with senior QS staff, site managers, and project teams to ensure accurate cost reporting and contract compliance.
Qualifications and skills needed:
- HNC, HND, or degree (or working towards) in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of construction processes and the role of quantity surveying.
- Strong numeracy, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Excel; experience with commercial software (e.g., COINS, Causeway) is a plus.
- Self-motivated with a willingness to learn and develop.
- Full UK driving licence (desirable for site-based roles).
