Job Description
Overview

Birkbeck, University of London, is seeking a part-time IT & AV Support Specialist to join the Information Services team, providing a high-quality, responsive support service to all University staff and students.

Our IT support specialists deliver front-line support for the deployment, maintenance and use of all computers and classroom-based equipment at the University. The team provides a high-quality, customer-focused service for all students, academic and teaching staff in the Faculties, and professional services staff throughout the year.

Responsibilities
  • Provide front-line and second-line IT and AV support, delivering solutions to users in a diverse, demanding environment.
  • Assist with deployment, maintenance and use of computers and classroom-based equipment.
  • Work with specialist technical teams to resolve issues and deliver first-time fixes where possible.
  • Support audio-visual equipment in classroom environments and contribute to higher education initiatives.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Solid and demonstrable understanding of MS Windows and Networking (gained in a corporate environment) is essential.
  • Experience of providing second-line support and working with specialist technical teams.
  • Experience with AV equipment in an educational setting is advantageous.
Salary, Benefits and Contract

Salary: £17,413 rising to £19,490 per year, part-time 0.5 FTE (17.5 hours per week). FTE salary range £34,827 to £38,981 per year. Grade 5 on the London Pay Scale with a consolidated London Weighting Allowance.

Contract: Permanent contract, part-time (17.5 hours per week), Monday to Friday, 3.30pm-7.00pm and 5.00pm-8.30pm (term time). Closing date: Tuesday 30 September 2025. Interview date: Friday 17 October 2025.
