Job description

We are looking for an Infrastructure Operations Engineer to help manage and maintain the core infrastructure that underpins DVLA's production services. The role holder has the technical knowledge and ability to provide second and third line support for incidents, problems and changes to solutions and services.

DVLA's Infrastructure Operations Engineers are responsible for the preparation and support of IT operations solutions and services, physical or virtual. They do so according to industry and organisational best practices, standards, service requirements and Key Performance Indicators throughout the product life cycle.

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) build world class digital services and you'll be part of a team delivering both change and service excellence. As DVLA continue the transformation journey there will be opportunities for you to support programmes that help migrate Legacy technology onto cloud-based platforms paving the way for the future business and service transformation.

Responsibilities

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Assist in technical support activities and carry out all routine maintenance tasks according to process
  • Monitor infrastructure and application services taking appropriate action where necessary
  • Diagnose and prioritise standard incidents, investigate their causes and finding resolutions, allocating them to the appropriate channels where necessary
  • Identify and engage with users and stakeholders

Person specification

To be successful in the role, you will need to be able to manage IT systems on and off premise. You will need to support software and infrastructure development projects and be able to work autonomously.

Technically you would have worked with a range of systems, such as Windows and Linux in both virtual and physical environments, with evidence of implementing technical best practice within a technical framework.

You will be an excellent communicator, able to collaborate with colleagues and customers whilst diagnosing and resolving problems and escalated customer issues.

You will be adept at investigating and implementing technical solutions whilst documenting processes to ensure they are fit for purpose and repeatable.

Application

You are required to submit a CV providing detailed evidence of your experience of the following essential criteria:

  • Experience of managing and maintaining a range of systems including Windows/Linux Server Operating Systems and associated enterprise tools
  • Evidence of monitoring, troubleshooting and resolving technical incidents and implementing change
  • Evidence of the use of Scripting/automation technologies to streamline and modernise processes
