Infection Prevention and Control Nurse, Band 6 (30 hours a week)
We are excited to announce we are looking to recruit a band 6 infection prevention and control Nurse. Are you interested in Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)? Do you want to be part of a friendly, supportive and innovative Infection Prevention and Control team? Then we want to hear from you.
The successful candidate will participate in the prevention and control of healthcare associated infection within Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (GHNHSFT). They will work closely with other team members across the One Gloucestershire System in the ongoing development and implementation of infection control practice in line with both Trust and national requirements.
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, proactive and motivated Nurse. Joining the team will provide the successful candidate the opportunity to develop expert skills and knowledge related to the prevention of infection and underpinning Microbiology. Opportunities to undertake post graduate study, research, quality improvement will also be offered.
Main duties of the jobYou will inspire and motivate others, and act as a role model and a professional source of advice for others.
A key part of the role will be to use evidenced based IPC to challenge and innovate new practice to ensure safe service delivery. To support our staff to maintain high standards of IPC, deliver infection prevention programmes and optimise management and treatment of patients with infections. The IPCN will ensure that IPC remains a highly visible service and an integral part of a robust patient safety programme.
You will be a Nurse registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. The candidates will have knowledge of current issues relating to IPC and excellent communication and interpersonal. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an understanding of audit and quality improvement. They will be able to prioritise their own workload; working independently and as a team.

The Infection Prevention & Control Team have a wide ranging programme of activity that focusses on continual improvement in order to deliver the best care for everyone and ensures our patients are at the heart of everything we do.
The successful candidate will be working in the Infection Prevention and Control team. The team is made up of Band 6 & 7 Nurses, a Lead Nurse for IPC and AMS, Infection Control Doctors, Surgical site surveillance team and Antimicrobial Pharmacists. Band 6 IPCNs are allocated mentors and supported by band 7 Nurses to support their development.
The IPCT have a vision of no preventable infection by delivering safe care. The team foster an environment of support, innovation & work to ensure that everything is done with the patient in mind. The team are friendly and inclusive.
Job responsibilities- Support patient ward rounds e.g. Nurse led C. difficile ward rounds and AMS ward rounds
- Administration of novel CDI therapies such as Faecal Microbiota transplants
- Advising and supporting staff with IPC issues
- Completing IPC audits and surveillance and engaging with ward and departments to support their delivery of remedial action plans
- Teaching on related study days and delivery and review of educational packages once confident to do so
- Division and system wide meeting attendance and participation
- Exposure to external IPC conferences and regional meetings
- Completion of post infection reviews
- Management and monitoring of outbreaks
- Leading and supporting quality improvement projects
- System wide working with key stakeholders and partners including UKHSA, Occupational Health, NHSE
- Engagement in Trust wide shared decision making
- Undertake research and writing for publication

- Interest in infection prevention and control
- Demonstrate understanding of research and evidence-based practice
- Experience of report writing
