Job Description
Nuclear Restoration Services Limited (NRS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). NRS is responsible for decommissioning first generation nuclear power stations Berkeley, Bradwell, Chapelcross, Dungeness A, Hinkley Point A, Hunterston A, Oldbury, Sizewell A, Trawsfynydd and Wylfa, and research sites Harwell and Winfrith. NRS is also responsible for electricity generation at hydroelectric plant Maentwrog. As a division of NRS, NRS Dounreay is responsible for the clean-up and demolition of the former centre of fast reactor research and development.

About the role

The Plant and Structures decommissioning team require an Industrial Safety Engineer to support their portfolio of work on the Winfrith Site. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a range of projects including decommissioning of the Winfrith Sea Discharge Pipeline, Active Liquid Effluent System and building demolitions.
Key Deliverables
Assist in maintenance of documentation/procedures in relevant aspects of conventional safety or environmental management.
Undertake activities required to support conventional safety.
Monitor compliance with Site standards through daily inspections and close contact with the operational staff.
Provide technical support and produce relevant assessments (risk assessment, manual handling, COSHH etc)
Successful candidate will be required to hold NRS Authorisation Instructions to enable the delivery of competent advice
Support performance monitoring and provide advice as necessary to maintain conventional safety standards and improve performance.
Support the implementation of identified good practice and promote and deploy across the Project.
Provide advice, support and guidance on conventional safety issues.
As a customer-focused individual, the post holder will be expected to support delivery within his or her range of skills, knowledge, experience and competence.
Contribute to the effective development of, and deliver, training within areas of competence
Develop, implement and manage a safety walk round programme for P&S project areas
Manage the self-monitoring programme for the project and submit monthly returns.
Communicate Company safety topics and learning from events to project staff.
Qualifications & Experience
Educated to NQF level 3 / NVQ Level 3 in relevant discipline (Essential)
Certificate in relevant aspect of safety or environmental management (Desirable)
Good knowledge of Company Processes for own specialty (Desirable)
Good interpersonal and communication skills coupled with a proactive and positive approach to working with colleagues and stakeholders (Essential)
Flexible and adaptable with proactive approach to challenges and problems (Essential)
Good IT skills with demonstratable ability to use a wide range of packages etc Word/ Excel/ PowerPoint (Desirable)

Flexible working - where possible.
The equivalent of 25 days (185 hours per year) annual leave plus Public Holidays (59.2 hours per year). This increases by 2 days (14.8 hours per year) annual leave after two full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year) , and an additional 3 days (22.2 hours per year) annual leave after five full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year). You also have the option to buy or sell the equivalent of 5 days (37 hours) annual leave each year (available in specific windows for the following holiday year). For the purpose of assessing an employee's annual leave entitlement, a day means seven and two fifths (7.4) hours. A pro rata entitlement will apply for part time workers.
