Title: Independence and Wellbeing Officer
Salary: £25,878 - £27,148 per annum FTE - Depending on Skills and experience
Hours: 33 hours per week (£23080 - £24213) Location: Sandwell
Contract: Part time - Fixed Term - 3-year contract Essential: Full UK driving licence + access to an insured vehicle for business use
We're seeking a compassionate Independence and Wellbeing Officer to provide one-to-one, strengths-based support to parents with learning disabilities, helping them build confidence and independence. You'll work in partnership with an Advocacy Practitioner from a partner organisation, internal colleagues, and alongside Sandwell Advocacy and Communities in Sync as the funder, to deliver coordinated support tailored to each family's goals.
Responsibilities- Provide person-centred, one-to-one support in homes, community settings, or online, tailored to each parent's needs.
- Strengthen parenting skills, confidence, and resilience through practical guidance and positive role-modelling.
- Develop and review personalised action plans, setting goals and tracking progress.
- Promote health and wellbeing and help create safe, nurturing home environments.
- Support multi-agency working, linking families with professionals and local services.
- Complete assessments and safeguarding duties in line with policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to reporting, partnership working, and service improvement.
- Experience supporting vulnerable adults, families, or people with learning disabilities.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to deliver sensitive, practical support.
- Confidence working independently, managing your own caseload, and adapting to changing needs.
- A commitment to empowering parents, promoting independence, and upholding safeguarding best practice.
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings to meet the needs of families.
Parents with learning disabilities often face barriers that affect their confidence, wellbeing, and ability to engage with services.
