Job Description

Join our organisation as Inclusion and Reform Lead to help make a region-wide impact by maximising our devolved powers.

Your role in elevating the East Midlands

The Inclusion and Reform Lead supports the Head of Inclusion and Reform in developing and implementing policies, strategies, and projects in areas like public service reform, health integration, homelessness, inclusion, community sector development, and public safety.

This role is crucial for long-term policy development, connecting EMCCA with local, regional, and national networks, and advancing the region's devolution ambitions. It also facilitates collaborative regional leadership in strategy, policy, and reform.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Using EMCCA and Government networks to stay updated on policy changes.
  • Supporting the Head of Inclusion and Reform in driving forward influential policy formulation.
  • Assisting with the development and implementation of effective strategic frameworks, corporate planning and policy development to embed priority outcomes (e.g. devolution etc.).
  • Developing key briefings, coordination of briefings for the Strategy and Inclusive Growth Directorate and wider organisation.
  • Developing and implementing programmes of delivery, ensuring priorities and outcomes are defined and timely.
  • Building effective cross-organisational working and collaborating with external partners on policy development in relevant policy areas.
  • Researching and implementing inclusion and reform policies, preparing briefing and project documentation.
  • Producing influential reports, briefings, speeches, articles, presentations, and other publications.
  • Conduct individual research and policy projects, procuring external support as needed.

Your profile:

  • With a degree level qualification in related field or demonstrable experience, you'll have a record of achievement in a similar role, of operating in a complex policy environment, preferably in local and/or central government or relevant policy body/agency.
  • Experience of developing people-focused policy or strategy, or leading work on a similar policy area.
  • Operating effectively in high-functioning teams.
  • Evidence of building strategic relationships with stakeholders, negotiating, influencing, and giving advice to politicians, senior managers, and partner organisations.
  • A creative and innovative thinking, able to translate ideas into practice.
  • A good understanding of key government policies and processes.
  • Strategic and analytical thinking for critical decisions.
  • A track record of delivering under pressure and prioritising work to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to build and develop teams, fostering collaboration and a supportive working culture, whilst equally comfortable working under own initiative.
  • Advanced presentation skills for complex ideas.
  • Access to own transport or willing to travel around the region.
  • Must be prepared to work flexibly in terms of working hours.
