Job Description

Leading an intentional law firm is looking to hire a Commercial Contracts Lawyer to join their innovative in-house team. The role can be based in Aberdeen, Glasgow, Edinburgh, or Birmingham.

Role Profile:

  • The Central Procurement and Contracts team combines procurement and legal contract expertise to support sourcing, contracting, and management of third-party suppliers in the UK and other jurisdictions where the firm operates. The team includes a Legal Director, three Senior Contracts Lawyers, and a Senior Training and Contracts Lawyer.
  • The procurement side has a Head of Procurement, two Category Managers, a data analyst, and an apprentice. A Team Coordinator/PA supports all CPC members. The team adopts a centre of excellence approach, working with representatives across business functions to ensure best practices in sourcing, contracting, and supply management.
  • The Contracts Lawyer's role involves drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and advising on a wide range of commercial contracts to support procurement and supplier management activities.
  • Responsibilities include reviewing, drafting, amending, and negotiating contracts of varying value, handling legal aspects independently, and consulting senior lawyers when necessary.
  • The role requires applying pragmatic, commercial, and risk management approaches, often under tight deadlines.
  • Work closely with CPC and the buying community to understand business needs and incorporate them into contracts, prioritizing key issues.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Approximately 2-5 years PQE in a general commercial or IT role, either in-house or private practice, preferably in a well-established organization. Less experienced or newly qualified lawyers will also be considered if suitable.
  • Part-time (4 days/week) or flexible working candidates are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong contract drafting skills and experience with commercial contracts for services and equipment.
  • Experience with legal aspects of commercial agreements, including IP, data protection, and employment law, is highly desirable.
  • Ability to draft service requirements and SLAs based on input from the buying community.
  • Commercial awareness, sound judgment, and risk assessment skills.
  • Enthusiastic, proactive, and solution-oriented with creative problem-solving abilities.

On Offer:

Competitive salary and benefits package.
