Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health, Safety & Environmental Advisor to join our team here at Yorkshire Baker. The main purpose of this role is to support the HSE Manager in delivering the site Health, Safety and Environmental strategy, providing day-to-day advice, challenge and guidance to operational teams. This role combines visible shop floor presence with effective management of HSE systems, with a strong focus on influencing others to own and deliver their HSE responsibilities.
Main duties include (but not limited to):- Provide practical guidance and constructive challenge on risk control and safe systems of work
- Maintain a regular and visible shop-floor presence to observe activities, coach safe behaviors and challenge unsafe practices
- Support operational teams in fulfilling their HSE responsibilities, ensuring ownership of actions
- Support and challenge the review of HSE risk assessments, ensuring they are suitable and sufficient
- Carry out HSE assessments and inspections, identifying hazards and ensuring appropriate controls are implemented
- Support the investigation of accidents, incidents and near misses, ensuring root causes are identified and effective corrective actions are agreed and owned
- Support the delivery of site HSE KPIs
- Conduct internal audits and inspections to monitor compliance with legal, company and site standards
- Carry out all activities with full awareness of their impact on the environment, supporting compliance with environmental legislation and site environmental controls
- Assist with environmental monitoring, reporting and improvement initiatives
- Proactively promote awareness of HSE throughout the site and challenge with regards to safety accordingly
- Proven experience in a HSE role within a manufacturing environment is essential (FMCG desirable)
- Experience in environmental is essential, ISEP (IEMA)/NEBOSH qualification an advantage
- Practical experience of accident/ incident investigation and risk assessment
- Experience of working with HSE management systems
- Strong communication skills with the confidence to challenge
- Ability to influence and achieve results through others in a fast-paced operational environment
- Practical, solutions-focused approach to HSE
