HR Manager
Posted 8 days 11 hours ago by Bell Lamb & Joynson Solicitors
Lucy Legal LLP is a forward-thinking law firm that combines substantive legal expertise with a genuine commitment to creating an environment where both clients and people thrive. We advise on complex commercial matters across multiple sectors, and our reputation rests not only on the quality of our legal work but on the operational excellence and human-centred culture that enable it. We're looking for an HR Manager who shares that philosophy and wants to build something meaningful within our Business Support function.
This is an exciting opportunity to take the helm of our HR operations at a pivotal moment for the firm. You'll join a lean, entrepreneurial Business Support team that sits at the heart of everything we do- recruitment and talent development to employee relations and organisational strategy. Unlike many law firms where HR feels peripheral, at Lucy Legal your function is genuinely valued. You'll work directly with Partners and senior management to shape how we attract, develop and retain the calibre of people who make us distinctive. If you want HR leadership that moves beyond compliance and into culture-building, this role offers real influence.
Your day-to-day will be wonderfully varied. You'll oversee the full recruitment cycle for both legal and non-legal roles, partnering closely with hiring managers to understand what excellence looks like in a law firm context. You'll manage our employment relations, from onboarding and training through to performance management and, when necessary, sensitive exit conversations. You'll own our reward and benefits offering, ensuring we remain competitive while respecting the unique economics of law firm life. You'll develop and deliver learning programmes tailored to the legal environment- whether that's induction for newly qualified solicitors or leadership development for associates. You'll also handle HR administration, compliance with employment law, and serve as an accessible first port of call for employee queries and concerns. It's a role that requires you to be both strategic and hands-on, both commercially minded and genuinely empathetic.
Career progression is substantial. As we grow, the HR function will expand, and a strong HR Manager becomes a natural step towards a Senior HR or People Operations leadership role. You'll build expertise in law firm-specific challenges- billable hours culture, associate development, succession planning for partnership that's genuinely valuable in the market. Beyond that, your work directly influences firm performance: strong recruitment means better quality staff; good retention saves significant costs; positive culture translates to client feedback. You'll own metrics that matter, and you'll see the impact of your decisions reflected in how people experience working here.
