Homeless Support Officer (female)

Job Description

We're looking for a female Homeless Support Officer who can work with our team to meet the needs of female rough sleepers. Working alongside the customer to create a support/pathway plan into sustainable housing that includes addressing barriers to rehousing, you will have a passion for supporting people to move on with their lives whilst empowering people to make choices for themselves.

This post is covered by a Genuine Occupational Requirement (GOR) under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010. Due to the sensitive nature of working with vulnerable female rough sleepers who may have experienced gender-based trauma this post can only consider female candidates.

Job requirements

You will need:

• 5 A-C, New Grade 4-9 (or equivalent) at GCSE level including Maths and English.
• To be resourceful and able to innovate/act on own initiative in a consistent way whilst being responsive to the needs of others.
• To communicate clearly, concisely and courteously with the public, other professionals, and the media; both face to face and by telephone.
• The ability to provide information and advice in accurate spoken English.
• To demonstrate negotiating and persuading skills and work well within a team.
• To have an excellent understanding of the underlying causes of homelessness and associated needs, such as mental health, substance misuse, alcohol dependency etc. Along with a very strong knowledge of how social benefits and the welfare system operates.
• It is desirable that you have a minimum of two years post qualification experience in a professional capacity including working with the homeless and/or vulnerable customers with multiple and complex needs
• Previous experience of working in a Local Authority or Housing Association would be desirable

• You will be required to provide a suitable vehicle for this post
• To work occasional evenings, weekends or early mornings to meet the demands of customers
• To undertake the homeless out of hours function on a rota basis
• This job includes duties that may require an element of physical exertion and mobility on an occasional or frequent basis
• You will be required to provide a suitable vehicle in connection with the duties for this post
• Appointment is subject to satisfactory clearance of an enhanced Disclosure check (Disclosure & Barring Services (DBS) under the Police Act 1997
