Highways Engineer

We are looking to hire for an experienced Design Engineer with a background in Highways.

Main Purpose of the Job

Based in any of our UK offices with a Highways presence, you will be part of a hardworking and growing team of Transport & Infrastructure Engineers/Consultants. Each office is based in an excellent location within easy reach of the local stations, with parking easily available nearby/onsite.

You will be expected to work with our other offices across the country as part of a wider, National team to help drive successful delivery of projects and enforce our core business values.

We work on projects across the country with the wider Transport & Infrastructure team. Some of the projects we work on are below, with plenty of others across the UK for you to be involved with:

• Sheffield City Council delivering an extensive network of Active Travel Infrastructure schemes
• Transport for West Midlands delivering circa. 20km of light rail extensions to the existing network
• Birmingham City Council delivering Active Travel Infrastructure and Cross City Bus upgrades
• Nottingham City Council delivering signalised junction

As part of your role, you may assume responsibility of lead consultant for your discipline contribution to multidisciplinary projects, including liaison with clients and establishing/agreeing the brief, delivering the specified work, undertaking contract administration, final account assessment and post contract completion assessment/as built analysis if required. You may perform complex technical or professional work activities and assure delivery to meet client requirements.

The ability to make plans, schedules and monitor work to meet deadlines and other requirements is also an essential part of the role.

Additionally, you will be expected to provide directions to junior members of the team to support their development and achieve competent delivery. Carry out work within own discipline area collaborating with others as required for assigned projects as delegated by the Project Manager.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Implement project requirements to fully meet the client specification in accordance with relevant standards.
• Collate project information, liaise and engage clients and third parties as required.
• Supervise site based projects as required.
• Lead project delivery & supervise and delegate to more junior members of staff and others as required.
• Check / approve own and other staff work, including third party design proposals.
• Integrate successfully into an established team and drive the team culture.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills Essential

• Qualification: BEng in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
• Experience: Delivery of urban highways schemes, client liaison, use of Common Data Environments & BIM levels & strategy, horizontal & vertical alignment design in AutoCAD & Civils 3D, detection.
• Skills: Commercial understanding, ability to collaborate with team members, great verbal and written communication.

Preferred

• Qualification: Association of Project Management Qualification (or equivalent), professional membership or accreditation to ICE, CIHT or APM.
• Experience: Singing & Lining designs to TSRGD, pavement & footway designs, development of highways specifications including MCHW, utility coordination and clash management, development of junior staff.
• Skills: Driving licence.
