  • Extensiveexperience in highways construction management in theUK.
  • Skilledin highways works delivery and comfortable interfacing with highwaysauthorities and stakeholders.
  • Costcontrol and commercial awareness are ideal.
  • Excellentrisk, quality and safety management skills, with deep understanding ofCDM, safe systems of work and construction phase planning.
  • Proventrack record of leading teams, subcontractors and supply chains to deliverhighway infrastructure work.
  • Effectivecommunication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Knowledgeof relevant highways standards, codes of practice and specification (e.g.,NRSWA, Design Manual for Roads and Bridges DMRB, Specification for HighwayWorks, Traffic Signs Manual).
  • SMSTSor equivalent site management safety training.
  • CSCS.
  • FullUK driving licence.
  • FirstAid at Work.

We have a unique opportunity to join a landmark clean-waterinfrastructure scheme that also involvessignificant highway and access infrastructure works to support the permanentscheme and temporary construction logistics. This presents a significantopportunity to deliver highway construction within a nationally significantinfrastructure programme under a Tier 1 design-and-build contractor.As a Highways Construction Manager, you will leadthe planning, delivery and completion of packages of the highway and roadinfrastructure works associated with the scheme. You will manage multi-disciplinaryteams, ensure safe, efficient delivery on time and budget, and interface withstakeholders, including highways authorities, utility providers, designers anddelivery teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadthe construction phase of highway packages, includingbut not limited to access junctions, road widening, passing bays, roadupgrades, temporary bridges and temporary haul roads.
  • Developand manage the construction programme for the responsible highway package.
  • Takeresponsibility for cost control, forecasting and profitability of thehighways scope.
  • Managerisks and issues proactively: safety, quality, environment, trafficmanagement, utilities interface.
  • Overseeand enforce safe systems of work, site inductions, CDM compliance and ensurethe highway works reflect the principal contractor's obligations under thecontract and statutory obligations.
  • Interfacewith key stakeholders.
  • Workwith the design team to ensure the highway construction scope is properlycoordinated with the permanent works, utilities diversions, and sitelogistics.
  • Work with the consents team to ensure that all the planning obligations have been discharged prior to commencement and arecontinually met throughout the delivery.
  • Monitorsubcontractor and supply chain performance, enforce quality control,manage inspection and acceptance of works.
  • Embedand promote environmental practices in line with contractual andstakeholder requirements.
  • Ensuretraffic and public interface obligations are met, including temporarytraffic management, community liaison, disruption mitigation andreinstatement.
  • Developthe culture of site operatives and set safe and accountable behaviours.
  • Highlightand report any bottlenecks within work fronts to the leadership team.
