Reports To: Director of Special Education and School Principal

Position Summary

The Special Education Teacher provides specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities to maximize their academic, social-emotional, and functional learning. The teacher develops and implements Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), monitors student progress, and collaborates with staff and families to ensure an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

  • Conduct assessments and evaluations to identify student learning needs.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Provide specialized instruction and interventions aligned with IEP goals.
  • Implement behavior management and support plans as needed.
  • Track and document student progress and maintain required records.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, specialists, and administrators to support student success.
  • Communicate regularly with families and encourage parent involvement.
  • Coordinate with outside agencies and service providers when appropriate.
  • Participate in team meetings, IEP meetings, and professional development.
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of special education practices, instructional strategies, and assessment methods.
  • Understanding of differentiated instruction and data-informed decision making.
  • Knowledge of state and federal special education regulations.
  • Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to effectively use educational technology and student data systems.
Qualifications Certification/Licensure
  • Valid State Certification as a Special Education Teacher.
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related education field required.
  • Master's degree in Special Education preferred.
Experience
  • Prior experience teaching students with disabilities preferred.
