Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled HGV Mechanic to join our maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy goods vehicles, ensuring they operate safely and efficiently. This role requires a strong mechanical background, proficiency with electrical systems, and experience with various tools and fabrication techniques. The position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about vehicle maintenance and repair to develop their skills within a professional environment.

Responsibilities

Conduct routine inspections and diagnostics on HGVs to identify faults and issues
Perform repairs and maintenance on engines, brakes, transmissions, and other vehicle systems
Utilise schematics and technical manuals to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems
Carry out fabrication, welding, soldering, and assembly work as required for repairs or modifications
Use hand tools, power tools, and specialised equipment to complete maintenance tasks efficiently
Repair or replace components such as axles, suspensions, and hydraulic systems
Maintain accurate records of repairs performed and parts utilised
Assist with the repair of auxiliary equipment including excavators and forklifts when necessary
Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations and company standards
Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with clients regarding repairs and maintenance schedules

Qualifications

Proven experience as an HGV Mechanic or in a similar heavy vehicle repair role
Strong mechanical knowledge of heavy goods vehicles and associated systems
Electrical experience including reading schematics and wiring diagrams
Proficiency in fabrication, welding, soldering, and assembly techniques
Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment
Experience working with specialised machinery such as excavators and forklifts is advantageous
Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently
Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail
Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple repairs simultaneously
Relevant qualifications or certifications in vehicle repair or engineering are desirable
