OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The role will involve delivering freight containers by road, always demonstrating a safety conscious approach to driving whilst adhering to all driving regulations and best practices. Also to demonstrate professionalism at all times to colleagues, customers, other road users, visitors, the general public and anyone else associated with your role and/or the any group company. KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
Health & Safety
100% compliance with all health and safety requirements relating to customer sites and driving regulations
Always wearing the correct PPE regardless of location, including customer sites
Carry out daily vehicle check in line with legal and company requirements, ensuring that all defects are correctly reported
Ensure vehicle and load safety at all times in line with legal and company requirements
Maintaining a high standard of driving in line with the highway code, company requirements, and road safety best practices resulting in zero/low levels of blameworthy accidents/incidents
Customer Service & Professionalism
Delivering and collecting goods from/to customers with professionalism and excellent customer service
Driving safely and respectfully and representing the company with professionalism at all times including to other road users and members of the public
Handling any concerns (including with colleagues or customers) with tact and diplomacy, and reporting any issues to the office for resolution to prevent escalation of issues
Compliance
Compliance with all legislative requirements including the Assimilated Drivers' Hours Rules and correct tachograph recording resulting in zero/low level of infringements
Familiarise yourself with all company policies, procedures, and technology relevant to your role and employment - this includes, but is not limited to, the employee handbook and driver handbook
Efficiency & Productivity
Planning of routes in conjunction with the transport office to ensure efficiency and service delivery to maximise working hours
Liaising with the transport office, keeping them informed of any delays, issues, or notable updates
Effectively using up to date technology and devices as required to enhance efficiency
Maintain adequate fuel and ad-blue in the vehicle you are using and keeping company vehicles clean and well maintained
Accurate completion of delivery/collection paperwork ensuring correct signatories, dates, and any other information before returning to site
QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Essential:
C&E Class 1 Licence
Valid Driver CPC
PERSONAL SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
Essential:
Strong awareness of, and compliance with, health and safety including highway code, drivers' hours regulations, and safe driving
Good communication skills with the ability to deliver great customer service and represent the company in a positive manner
Excellent attention to detail with an organised approach to work, liaising with colleagues and customers to ensure excellent service delivery
Good awareness of UK geography and the road network
EXPERIENCE
Desirable:
At least 12 months of recent HGV driving experience
Exposure to rail cargo container shipments
No more than 6 points with no DR or DG codes
