The Opportunity

Our client, a well-established and growing organisation within the environmental and recycling sector, is seeking a professional and reliable HGV Driver to join their transport team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced driver who is looking to play a key role in a business committed to sustainability, safety, and high service standards.

The Role

As an HGV Driver, you will be responsible for the safe and compliant collection, transportation, and delivery of a range of waste materials-including hazardous waste streams such as batteries, oils, filters, and plastics-as well as finished products to customer sites.

This is a customer-facing role where you will act as the company's representative on site, ensuring all activities are carried out in line with legal, environmental, and safety regulations while delivering a high standard of service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safely collect and transport waste materials and finished goods between customer locations and processing sites
  • Ensure all loads are secured and handled in accordance with ADR and legal requirements
  • Carry out daily vehicle checks and report any defects or safety concerns promptly
  • Maintain full compliance with Tachograph regulations, Operator Licence obligations, and road transport laws
  • Ensure correct loading, containment, and handling of waste, including immediate reporting of any spillages or incidents
  • Complete all documentation accurately and on time
  • Maintain cleanliness and presentation of the vehicle to company standards
  • Act as the primary point of contact on customer sites, ensuring adherence to site-specific health, safety, and security procedures
  • Build strong working relationships with customers and identify any additional service requirements
  • Report near misses, incidents, or hazards in line with company procedures
  • Represent the business in a professional and positive manner at all times
Essential
  • Valid HGV licence with no more than 3 penalty points
  • Strong knowledge of EU Drivers' Hours and Working Time Directive regulations
  • Good understanding of Operator Licence compliance and UK transport legislation
  • Solid knowledge of the UK road network
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage your time effectively
  • A proactive, flexible, and solution-focused approach
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
Desirable
  • ADR certification
  • Previous experience within the waste management or recycling sector
