Job Description
Healthcare Science Assistant - Higher Level

University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust - Fixed Term role based in Salisbury.

Closing date: 12 May 2026.

Job responsibilities

You will join our diagnostic team committed to patient centred service provision through accurate and timely data analysis, interpretation and reporting of genomic information.

  • Process samples and data on a range of pathological specimens under the supervision of senior technical staff and clinical scientists for screening, diagnostic and monitoring purposes.
  • Provide accurate, timely and appropriate analytical data for testing in house and by external laboratories.
  • Plan workload based on sample priority and respond to changing requirements.
  • Participate in quality improvement, including the evaluation of equipment, techniques and protocols.
  • Maintain stock levels in the section and order reagents and consumables in a timely manner.
Person Specification Qualifications / training required
  • 5 GCSEs at A C level or equivalent.
  • NVQ level 3 education or equivalent level of experience.
Previous or relevant experience necessary
  • Working knowledge and competency in laboratory bench areas.
Aptitudes and skills required
  • Ability to communicate well with all staff.
  • Ability to plan and use own time economically and effectively.
  • High motivation and enthusiasm for the role.
  • Ability to work both as part of a team and as an individual.
  • Highly developed initiative skills.
  • Articulate and clear thinking.
  • Ability to deal with problems in a calm and efficient manner.
  • Collect and report routine data and information.

Salary

£25,760 to £27,476 per annum (or pro rata).
