Health, Safety & Fire Manager

This post reports directly to the Head of Capital Projects & Estates and will provide strategic and operational advice and support regarding national legislation, regulations and standards relating to buildings and healthcare. The post holder is required to have experience in this area to support in an advisory capacity and be able to demonstrate their capability in working in a healthcare organisation. This will include the delivery of training and compliance with health, safety, and fire legislation and guidance. The post holder will act as the Trust nominated competent person responsible for overseeing all systems in relation to fire safety. We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, authentic leader who is passionate about identifying and implementing learning to ensure safe systems of work and a safe environment for our staff, patients, visitors, and contractors. They must be a highly effective communicator, able to work to tight timeframes, and have exceptional organisational skills. Flexibility and the ability to work as part of a team are essential.
Main duties of the job- Provide competent specialist advice, guidance and support to managers and staff throughout the Trust regarding fire, health and safety and Estates responsibilities
- Assist Managers in the development of safe systems of work to ensure compliance with legislation
- Determine implications of fire and health and safety legislation and develop policies according to the needs of the organisation
- Support the Head of Capital Projects & Estates in ensuring the safety and suitability of Trust premises
- Educated to degree level plus specialist knowledge at masters level or equivalent experience
- NEBOSH Diploma
- Chartered Membership of IOSH
- Previous NHS Experience
- Experience in Auditing
- Ability to develop and deliver fire management system
- Up-to-date knowledge of current and developing legislation and guidance in relation to health & safety
- Experience of practical application of health and safety best practice to include risk assessment
- Knowledge of NHSLA Risk management standards and CQC outcomes
- Experience of working in the NHS dealing with challenging issues
- Practical experience of fire safety management and training
- Practical experience of developing and delivering Health and Safety training
- Microsoft office suite experience (including Excel and Powerpoint)
- Understanding of Clinical and Corporate governance
- Knowledge of DATIX incident reporting module
- Actively manages relationships by developing rapport and trust with a range of individuals within and outside of the trust.
- Ability to deal with challenging people, understand their views and communicate in a non-confrontational manner using tact and diplomacy
- Excellent report writing skills and communication skills
- Interpretation and presentation of data
- Working effectively and commitment to team working
- Ability to work with minimum supervision, prioritising workloads and delivering to deadlines
- Ability to deal with emotive circumstances arising from complaints
- Willingness to travel to various sites as requested
- Access to a car for work purposes
- Excellent Interpersonal Skills
