Active Surrey

We are Active Surrey, one of 43 national Active Partnerships funded by Sport England to tackle inactivity driven by inequalities. We believe in the power of physical activity and the benefits it can offer as a mood booster, confidence lifter, social enhancer and a life extender.

Less than half Surrey's children and young people are doing enough physical activity every week, which falls to only 4 out of 10 children amongst lower-income families. In addition, 3 out of 10 Surrey adults aren't doing enough, rising to over 4 out of 10 amongst those earning less. That's why we need YOU to join our 'Movement for Change' and help us challenge and change the status quo to get more people moving, and help us create a fairer, better and healthier future for everyone.

'Be Your Best' is a fully funded healthy lifestyle programme for families with children aged 5-17 years, who are above the healthy weight range. The programme adopts a family approach so you will be working with the whole family.

About the Role

We are looking for a Health & Wellbeing Advisor to primarily support families living in the boroughs of Elmbridge, Epsom & Ewell and Mole Valley.

Like all roles at Active Surrey, you can expect this to be fun, rewarding and challenging. No two days will be the same! Your role will be to deliver the one-to-one session part of the 'Be Your Best' programme, either in schools or family homes. Families are also offered online group sessions delivered by the University of Surrey and Family Learning. Topics include The Eatwell Guide, sugar swaps, sleep, exercise and screen time.

You'll love this job if:

  • You're passionate about making a difference and helping those who need it most
  • You're patient, empathetic, non-judgmental and able to really listen
  • You work well independently and also collaboratively as part of a wider team
  • You're organised and able to proactively manage your schedule to maximise contact time with families

Shortlisting Criteria

To be considered for shortlisting for this position, your CV and personal statement will clearly evidence the following:

  • Experience of providing health and wellbeing interventions to families with children aged 5-17 years, with the ability to recognise and respond appropriately in sometimes challenging situations
  • A good knowledge of current health and wellbeing messages and ability to advocate this (particularly nutrition and physical activity to help reach and maintain a healthy weight)
  • Experience of working with young people with additional needs, in particular Autism and ADHD
  • Local knowledge of onward referral / signposting options for families living in the area
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent IT skills with experience of working with internal monitoring systems (we use Upshot)

Surrey has both urban and rural areas and as this is a Surrey-wide programme you will need to have a valid driving licence to drive in the UK, access to a vehicle and be willing to travel across a wide geographical area. Reasonable adjustments where needed will be made for successful applicants who have a disability or long term health condition to enable them to fulfil the requirements of the job.

The job advert closes at 23:59 on 10th July 2025 with interviews to follow.

We look forward to receiving your application, please click on the apply online button below to submit.

An enhanced DBS 'Disclosure and Barring Service' check for regulated activity and the Children's and Adults' Barred List checks will be required for this role.
