Health and Safety Manager

Role Summary
You will have primary responsibility to ensure health and safety management systems and arrangements are at the forefront of best practice. You will provide assurance that these management systems are applied consistently across the business to effectively control risks within the South West Water Framework.
What you will be doing
Health & Safety Management Systems & Processes:
- Review, revise, and publish health and safety management systems, processes, and forms to ensure compliance with health and safety policies and legal obligations.
- Consider and respond to feedback on company systems, processes, and forms.
- Act as the point of contact for external system providers (currently Sypol for COSHH assessments and Cardinus for DSE assessments), monitor services, and resolve issues.
- Lead the development of new health and safety systems and initiatives as needed.
Health & Safety Internal Compliance:
- Develop an internal audit process to ensure all business units meet health and safety policies and legal requirements through proper implementation of management systems.
- Develop a similar audit process for joint ventures.
- Manage audits, including planning, conducting, reporting, and tracking corrective actions.
- Produce monthly reports on audit performance.
External Compliance:
- Develop and implement supplier audit regimes for high-risk and other suppliers as necessary, liaising with procurement and suppliers.
- Investigate opportunities to generate income through these activities.
- Produce monthly reports on supplier audit progress and performance.
What we will need from you
- Minimum NEBOSH Health and Safety Diploma.
- Member of IOSH or IIRSM with up-to-date CPD.
- IRCA-accredited OH&S lead auditor and internal auditor training.
- Certified by IRCA.
- Environmental training/qualification (desirable).
- Member of IEMA (desirable).
- Enthusiastic about promoting high health & safety standards.
- Effective team player.
- Ability to work independently and autonomously.
- Strong communication and influencing skills.
- Self-managed with a focus on high-quality output.
