We also offer secure employment with a range of flexible and family friendly working policies to support your life and wellbeing. If you are ready to make an impact and grow your career in a purpose-led organisation, your journey starts here.

The Opportunity

We are now seeking a Head of System Integrity to join the Operations Chief Office. The successful candidate will report to the Director of TSO Operations and will provide strategic, technical and operational leadership across the arrangements that ensure the safe, secure, reliable and compliant operation of the Irish transmission system. The role holder will lead across power system protection, revenue metering, energisation, operational policy, fault investigation, power quality monitoring and operational readiness of transmission infrastructure and connections. This role is critical to maintaining system integrity while supporting network reinforcement, customer connections and renewable integration programmes.

The Team

The Operations Chief Office is responsible for operating Ireland's power system, EirGrid's first and most fundamental responsibility. The team operates today's system with reliability, safety and security, while adapting it for a very different future. It is also responsible for operating and developing efficient and transparent electricity markets, delivering the energy transition and driving affordable outcomes for consumers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide governance and oversight of power system protection policy, protection settings and coordination, fault investigations and protection specifications for system developments and connections.
  • Work closely with the Transmission Asset Owner to ensure protection devices, schemes, communications links and designs are maintained and aligned with protection policy requirements.
  • Direct investigations of system disturbances and protection maloperations, ensuring lessons learned are translated into policy, procedural and technical improvements.
  • Oversee energisation and operational readiness activities for grid connections, ensuring compliance with relevant safety rules and operational requirements.
  • Partner with infrastructure teams to embed operational requirements throughout the lifecycle of capital and connection projects.
  • Establish best practice in the management of revenue metering data feeds and provision of data required by the Group, codes and licences.
About you
  • Engineering degree with significant leadership experience in the power system industry.
  • Strong knowledge of power system protection, power system operation and HV switching operations.
  • Experience in the design, specification, setting and management of power system protection schemes.
  • Understanding of transmission station design and associated primary and secondary systems and infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated leadership of multidisciplinary engineering teams and complex operational programmes.
  • Strong governance, risk management and decision-making capability in a business-critical operational environment.
