Job Description

Wolgarston High School is a thriving and ambitious school with a strong and growing Sixth Form at its heart. Our Post 16 provision is a welcoming, high-achieving community where students are supported to aim high and to move on to excellent next steps.

As our Sixth Form continues to expand, we are looking to appoint a Head of Sixth Form (non teaching) to play a key role in the day to day life of the provision. This is a hands on role, focused on supporting students, working closely with staff and ensuring that the Sixth Form runs smoothly and successfully.

You will work alongside the Assistant Headteacher for Sixth Form, building strong relationships with students and helping them to stay on track academically while also supporting their wider development. Much of the role is about being visible, approachable and consistent-someone students trust and staff rely on.

The role combines pastoral support, mentoring and administration. You will spend time working directly with students, particularly those who need additional guidance, helping them manage challenges, improve engagement and make good progress. You will also oversee key processes such as monitoring attendance and progress, supporting UCAS applications, and ensuring students move on to positive destinations.

Alongside this, you will take responsibility for important administrative aspects of the Sixth Form, including maintaining student records, supporting bursary processes and helping to organise key events such as enrolment, open evenings and induction. You will also work with parents and external agencies where needed to make sure students are well supported.

We are looking for someone who is organised, calm and practical, with experience of working with young people. You should be confident building relationships, able to deal with issues sensitively and firmly, and comfortable managing a varied workload. Above all, you should be committed to helping students succeed and get the most out of their time in the Sixth Form.

This is an important role within a successful and growing area of the school, offering the chance to make a real difference to students at a key stage in their lives.

Employee Benefits

  • Access to first class CPD opportunities
  • Genuine opportunities for career progression - with 7 schools within the academy
  • Professional assistance - you will have access to an Employee Assistance Programme
  • Pension - automatic enrolment into Staffordshire LGPS Pension Scheme
  • Discounted gym memberships
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Free will writing service

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and responsibility. Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.

All staff working in the School during the school day will have contact with children and will therefore be in regulated activity.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.
