Head of Service - Younger Adult, Learning Disability & Autism (LD&A) and Physical Disability & Sensory Impairment (PDSI)

Permanent

Grade 7: £66,627 to £85,845

Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review

Working hours: 36.5 hours per week

Birmingham City Council is seeking an exceptional Head of Service to lead the Younger Adult, Learning Disability & Autism (LD&A) and Physical Disability & Sensory Impairment (PDSI) services through a critical period of redesign and transformation. This senior leadership role focuses on designing and delivering a new service operating model for Younger Adults. Working closely with health and wider system partners, you will drive the delivery of modern, strengths based services that are safe, sustainable and outcome focused. You will provide confident leadership through complex change, balancing innovation with strong operational oversight, safeguarding assurance and performance management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and delivery of a new service operating model.
  • Drive transformation and embed strengths based practice.
  • Ensure safe statutory delivery with strong governance and safeguarding.
  • Manage performance, demand and budgets.
  • Build strong partnerships across health and the wider system.
About You

You are an experienced senior leader with a strong track record of leading large services through transformation in complex public sector environments. Essential requirements include substantial experience at a senior level with LD&A, proven transformation leadership, strong knowledge of adult social care legislation, and experience managing large teams, budgets and partnerships.

You are motivated to shape the future of Younger Adults services at scale within one of the largest local authorities in Europe and to lead meaningful change that improves outcomes for residents.
