Year after year, London's Pride celebrations bring people together in amazing ways. The connections and community we build lay the groundwork for a brighter, more inclusive future. Now's your opportunity to play a meaningful part as a Pride in London volunteer.

Pride in London is embracing a renewed sense of purpose that resonates with everyone. We stand as a beacon to highlight ongoing challenges within the LGBTQ+ community, even amidst progress. Our roots intertwine the protest origins of Pride with the spirit of celebration. Our guiding values - Visibility, Unity, and Equality - drive every step we take.

Our incredible team is a blend of passionate staff and volunteers who champion diversity, inclusivity, and understanding. We hail from diverse walks of life, forming a vibrant community of change-makers. Our ultimate goal? To amplify awareness of LGBTQ+ matters and advocate for the rights that ensure equal lives for all.

With a diverse and dedicated year-round team of around 150 volunteers, we orchestrate Pride in London, the incredible event that unites us all. Your unique voice can contribute to the symphony!

Your Role

As the Head of Public Affairs, you will be a crucial link between Pride in London and key government and political stakeholders. You will lead on engaging with government ministers, city officials, and policymakers to advance the interests of Pride in London and the wider LGBTQ+ community.

This role plays a vital part in shaping the legislative and political environment in which Pride in London operates, ensuring our voice is heard at the highest levels of government. You will provide strategic insight on public policy, political developments, and advocacy opportunities, helping Pride in London remain a visible, influential, and respected organisation.

Time Commitment & Term
  • Approximately 6-8 hours per week, with flexibility around peak activity periods.

  • Attendance to online weekly meetings as well as in person monthly all team meetings.

Your Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute Pride in London's public affairs strategy

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with government ministers, MPs, city officials, and political stakeholders

  • Represent Pride in London at high-level meetings, briefings, and events

  • Advise on policy issues, political developments, and public sector engagement

  • Monitor relevant legislative, regulatory, and policy changes impacting the LGBTQ+ community

  • Collaborate with internal teams on government-focused messaging and advocacy campaigns

  • Organise meetings and engagement opportunities with government and political leaders

  • Prepare briefing papers, position statements, and presentations

Community
  • Ensure Pride in London's public affairs activity reflects and supports the interests of the LGBTQ+ community

  • Maintain awareness of current political threats and opportunities affecting LGBTQ+ rights

  • Advise senior leadership on risks, mitigation strategies, and advocacy priorities

What You'll Bring to Pride in London
  • Experience in public affairs, public policy, or government relations (3+ years preferred)

  • Strong understanding of UK politics and LGBTQ+ policy issues

  • An established or developing network of political and government contacts

  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and influencing skills

  • Strategic thinking and sound judgement

  • A genuine passion for LGBTQ+ rights and Pride in London's mission
