Head of Project Controls

Location: Aberdeen

Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent

Reports to: Commercial Director

Salary: Competitive, commensurate with experience

JAB Recruitment is currently looking to source a Head of Project Controls on behalf of our Client in the energy services sector. We're seeking candidates with innovative thinking and a forward-looking mindset-individuals who can drive improvement and support the continued evolution of project controls across a dynamic and growing portfolio.

Job Overview

The Head of Project Controls will lead all project control activities within the Asset Solutions business, including planning, scheduling, cost control, estimating, document control, and risk management. This role offers the opportunity to influence project control practices, introduce standardized processes, and leverage data-driven insights to ensure delivery excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead regional project controls teams across cost, planning, risk, change, and document control functions.
  • Implement standardized approaches and tools to ensure high-quality, reliable data for decision-making and governance.
  • Support contract audits, performance reviews, and project risk assessments.
  • Monitor and report on project performance to stakeholders.
  • Establish systems for planning, estimating, forecasting, and cost management.
  • Oversee reporting aligned with project execution plans and client requirements.
  • Assist in proposal development through accurate cost estimation and scheduling.
  • Manage project close-out activities, including CTR/job card and supplier PO management.
  • Collaborate with project teams to track progress, manage changes, and ensure contractual alignment.
  • Foster continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the project controls team.
Candidate Requirements

Education & Knowledge:

  • Degree in Construction, Quantity Surveying, Business, or related field.
  • Knowledge of project phases, control systems, and governance frameworks.
  • Familiarity with various contract types including O&M, EPC, and drilling.

Skills & Attributes:

  • Strategic, proactive, and solutions-oriented thinking.
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
  • High numeracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with planning and cost control tools; advanced Excel skills.
  • Leadership experience in building and developing teams.

Experience:

  • Proven leadership in project controls within complex, multi-contract portfolios.
  • Commercial awareness supporting proposal development.
  • Experience in energy, oil & gas, or related sectors.
  • Track record of driving operational improvements and change management.
